8 – Kahun | Israel
Kahun’s AI clinical-reasoning tool for physicians actually consults with medical literature, rather than only patient data
A young and ostensibly healthy female was referred for evaluation following two episodes of unexplained bedwetting that occurred two years apart, at 18 and 20 years of age.
On both occasions she reported awakening feeling well, only to notice she had passed urine in bed during sleep. She had no other symptoms, was not taking any medications, and denied consuming alcohol or illegal substances.
Urine tests and abdominal ultrasound were normal. On both occasions, she received empiric antibiotic therapy for a presumed (yet unconfirmed) urinary tract infection. She died suddenly in her sleep at the age of 23 years.
If the doctors ran the young girl’s system through Kahun, it would have triggered the physician to understand that the bedwetting was due to a seizure and could have treated her accordingly.
Kahun’s proprietary map of more than 30 million evidence-based medical insights generated from their simulated questioning would’ve empowered doctors to ask the right questions and diagnose her correctly and ultimately save her life.
The company’s unique platform establishes the quality of its data gathering in a way that makes sense clinically, allowing it to be widely adopted by medical providers instead of just patients.
They recently announced the first-of-its-kind study published in the International Journal of Medical Informatics (IJMI), demonstrating the best overall performance in finding the most pertinent insights in a simulated patient conversation.
