9. Best healthy plant-based breakfast: Folded JUST Egg

PER 1 PIECE (57 G): 100 calories, 7 g fat (0.5 g saturated fat), 300 mg sodium, 3 g carbs (0 g fiber, 0 g sugar [0 g added sugar]), 7 g protein

JUST Egg has already been in the plant-based egg game for a while, and its newest offerings transforms your kitchen into a café. These frozen folded egg patties are made with mung beans and turmeric. Each one has 100 calories, 7 grams of fat, and 7 grams of protein.

The expert’s take: “Good calorie count, more protein than a medium egg, and no added sugar,” says Upton.

Our tasting notes: “I was pleasantly surprised by these patties. I added one between two pieces of bread along with some avocado, cheese, and Everything But The Bagel seasoning—and it was tastier than any Starbucks breakfast sandwich. I heated it up in a paper towel in the microwave for one minute, but it can also go in the toaster straight from the freezer. I couldn’t believe how easy it was to prepare—and how delicious it ended up tasting!” says McDonald.

10. Best healthy yogurt alternative: Silk Greek Style Coconutmilk Yogurt Alternative

PER 1 CONTAINER (150 G): 190 calories, 11 g fat, 10 g sat fat, 25 mg sodium, 12 g carbs, <1 g fiber, 9 g fiber (9 g added sugar) 10 g protein

Greek yogurt has a unique taste and texture, but Silk has created the ultimate coconut milk version. “Spoon up the power of plants,” the brands says of this lemon-flavored option that combines 10 grams of protein with calcium, vitamin D, and live and active cultures.

The expert’s take: “This has a good amount of protein, and while it has more saturated fat because it’s made with coconut milk, the saturated fats in coconut are likely not as harmful to your heart as saturated fats from animal products like meat and full-fat dairy foods,” says Upton.

Our tasting notes: “I wasn’t expecting this yogurt to taste so much like the real thing… It’s hard to believe it’s fully vegan! It’s still thick and creamy like regular Greek yogurt, with a light lemon flavor that would pair perfectly with granola and fresh berries for breakfast. It was my second-favorite winner, and I finished off the carton in no time,” says McDonald.
